PROGRAMME NOTE

Forgotten imagines a place for what has slipped out of memory: people, objects, moments, and lives no longer held in anyone's mind. The piece grapples with ideas of existential uncertainty, profound grief, and the loss of self — but also a process of rediscovery: from the emptiness of that loss, something new emerges.

Musically, Forgotten begins in neoromantic lyricism, drifts at the heart of its loss into an impressionistic weave of texture and colour, and re-emerges with a new, yet familiar voice.

THE COMPOSER

Valtteri Happonen is from Hyvinkää, Finland, and currently resides in Sweden. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music composition from Örebro University, and has written music that has been performed across a range of styles and formats, including orchestral, solo piano, musical theatre, and big band. His work often has a strong emotional and narrative focus.

His most recent chamber orchestra work Forgotten was premiered by the Swedish Chamber Orchestra in Örebro Concert Hall in May 2026 as part of a collaboration with Örebro University.
